A Fairhope, Alabama Wedding at the American Legion
Laura & Taylor| Fairhope, Alabama | 10.28.2017
I had the honor of photographing Laura & Taylor’s Fairhope, Alabama wedding at the American Legion. Taylor and Laura have been good friends of mine and my husbands since we were in high school (my husband and Taylor graduated together).
Taylor went the traditional route and didn’t want to see his bride before she walked down the aisle, so he and Laura didn’t do a first look. This is such a romantic gesture! The guys hung out and dressed at a house on Mobile Bay located down County Road 1 in Fairhope, AL past The Grand Hotel. The girls got all gussied up at a sweet friend’s house in the heart of downtown Fairhope.
Taylor and Laura love the outdoors and the water which made their venue absolutely perfect for them. The ceremony took place on the beach at the American Legion Post 199 in Fairhope, Alabama. The American Legion offers an outdoor ceremony and reception location that is directly on Mobile Bay. They had an arbor that framed the bay with a garland of gorgeous greenery and big, fluffy white hydrangeas. The aisle was sprinkled with bouquets of yellow sunflowers, turquoise roses, and white hydrangeas. Laura’s dress was a fabulous ivory, full lace Justin Alexander gown that she purchased at Bliss Bridal.
The Bride’s bouquet was so special.
Taylor and Laura ordered the flowers wholesale and put them together themselves. After Laura left the bay house the night before their wedding, Taylor put together a bouquet of sunflowers, turquoise roses, and the white hydrangeas (with ribbon around the stems and everything) and sent the surprise delivery to Laura the morning of their wedding. She loved it so much that she carried it down the aisle. The reception décor was nautical themed featuring anchors, nautical knots, and sea stars. Their cake was three tiers with ivory icing and a turquoise blue anchor to pull in nautical theme from their ceremony.
In Baldwin County, Alabama our winters are super mild and really don’t start until almost Christmas. This year was extremely different, October 28th was the day our first cold front moved into our area. The high that day couldn’t have been over 55 and add the wind coming from Mobile Bay. South Alabama wardrobes aren’t built for cold weather.
Let me tell you, IT WAS FREEZING and super windy.
Fortunately, the wedding party and the bride and groom were good sports! Everyone toughed out the cold for the ceremony and the bride’s dad made the decision to move the reception indoors. The weather didn’t prevent the emotions of the day from being apparent. I caught the bride’s dad tearing up at least twice and many other smiles and hugs were shared. The day was absolutely, perfect for the two of them. Most of all, everything about the day represented Taylor and Laura, so well.
Wedding photography is all about capturing emotions and wedding days are not lacking in the emotion department. Jessica Smith Photography loved this Fairhope, Alabama Wedding.
